What spec PC's ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When we were playing tonite a couple of us kept crashin out ( me included ). Some of the guys who didn't were sayin "time for a new pc". just wonderin what spec would be good.
I'm about to upgrade and wondered if you could point me in the right direction.
This is what I am considering :-

intel duo 3.4
agp mobo ( so I can keep my nvidia 6800 )
2gb 533mhz ram
250 sata X2 ( raid )

This is what I currently have :-

amd athlon 2600
nvidia 6800
.75gb 333 mhz ram
ide drive

Should I save up abit more ?
cheers
dave

You should be looking for anything from;

2.6ghz or more
1gb ram or more
256mb DEDICATED gfx card memory!

And that should be fine?

Im not that much of a gamer, But most games have different requirements!

Re: What spec PC's ?

i would save up a bit more m8 and get a pci express mobo and gfx card, this will save you money and hassle in the long run, even if you dont get a high end gfx card with now you could save up in the future and get one without having to change the mobo and cpu again

but like fibre said min gfx spec 256Mb

@fibre - are you suggesting just abit more ram then ?
@sat - i know what u r saying its just that i've not had the 6800 card for long ( its 256mb) and i get the feeling, (it will run hl2 with all setting on max flawlessly, but with bf i've had to reduce settings to mid and sometimes i get lag) that its the rest of my system that cant keep up with the gfx card. I'm sure I read somewhere that a good agp card can still hold its own against a pcie card if its got some oomph behind it.
What do you guys run ?
cheers
dave

Re: What spec PC's ?

depends on the games u play but I would also strongly suggest u save and move over to PCIe, AGP has served its purpose but its time to move on. I moved from a 6800AGP system, now running the system as per my sig below. I am a heavy gamer, most evenings after a slow day at work, my poison is BF2, CoH and occasionaly HL2. 2GB memory is advised if you play BF2/2142, as is a card with AT LEAST 256MB of dedicated memory

AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+
2GB Corsair Ram
X800 Graphics card
Creative Audigy sound card
500W PSU

Changing the PSU to a Coolermaster IGreen 600W PSU, when they are back in stock at Ebuyer. Ready for my DX10 graphics card, not sure which to get, but thinking of waiting for the next generation Nvidia cards.

Hmm, let me see what I've got... Which is hard, as I'm at work!!

Erm, Intel 3.0 Ghz Processor - can't remember which one
2 Gb RAM
x1600 ATI graphics card
600W PSU
120GB and 250 GB hard drives - 7200 of course
Crappy soundcard until I can get a x-fi one - but hey, upgrades can be on a different thread...
